Dracula Episode 8

Come To Die

 

It's a busy night in London. Dracula is parked outside Mina's home doing his usual stalking stakeout. It just so happens, though, Mina isn't home. She's working (i.e. snooping) around Van Helsing's lab to discover his new secret hiding place for the mysterious liquid she had found earlier. Elsewhere, Lady Jayne is in huntress mode as vampires have been popping up all over town. Alright, cat fight! Always a good way to start off an episode. Lady Jayne is at least able to learn that the head vampire she's hunting for is none other than the Vlad Tepes.

 

Harker confides the whole General Shaw fiasco to his foreign accented buddy from the paper. (Yep, I've already forgotten his name.) After Jonathan admits he feels his life may be in danger, Foreign Accent Buddy slips him a spare gun for protection.

 

Lady Jayne reports her findings back to The Order. Some of the fogey stogies scoff at the idea. Dracula is only a myth. Mr. Browning orders his huntswoman to bring them some solid proof that Dracula is in London.

 

Jonathan warns Mina that his boss, Alexander Grayson, could be very dangerous and to stay away from the American for her own sake.

 

Grayson stops by Lady Jayne's house expecting to get his usual jollies. Surprisingly, Lady Jayne and her breasts aren't in the mood. In fact, it's time their friends with benefits without actual friendship situation came to an end. After all, Lady Jayne has known for some time that Grayson's heart really belongs to Mina.

 

The next day Grayson is surprised when Mina drops by his mansion. She lets him know that she and Jonathan know what kind of a ruthless man Grayson is and they won't allow him to drag them down to his level.

 

Lucy continues with her mission to seduce Jonathan. When that doesn't work out, Lucy innocently mentions seeing Mina at Grayson's mansion, which of course gets Jonathan's attention. He goes to the school to confront Mina about her meetings with Grayson. They argue.

 

After being scorned by his not-lady love, Dracula has a vampiric snit fit. Only Renfield can stop him, even if it involves trashing the place in the process.

 

Lady Jayne utilizes holy water to torture a couple of captured vampire. This time she learns that the vampire grape vine says Dracula has found a way to be able to endure sunlight.

 

Mina, alone in the lab at the school, is attacked by Road Rash (Lord Davenport's man) and a couple of thugs. Road Rash is about to pour some sulfuric acid on Mina's face when Dracula drops down from the ceiling and rips Road Rash's arm off. (It's quite graphic. I continue to be surprised at how much NBC will allow to be shown.)

 

The next morning Lady Jayne and Mr. Browning find the remains of Road Rash and company impaled on top of some iron fencing. Surely this is proof enough that The Impaler is in town for a limited engagement.

 

Grayson stops by the hospital to check up on Mina. She awakens, but due to a blow to the head and the swiftness of the attack the whole night is sort of a blur to her. (Whoops. Turns out that road rash on Road Rash is actually a birth mark. Didn't mean to be insensitive there. I just didn't know what the heck was on his face.) Jonathan suddenly remembers Lord Davenport's man had a large birth mark on his face.

 

Jonathan gets up to go inform the police about this. Grayson stops him, reminding Jonathan that the police are more likely to fall on Lord Davenport's side rather than believe a lowly ex-reporter. Jonathan leaves the hospital anyway and, with his foreign friend's pistol, confront Lord Davenport. Davenport starts playing mind games on his young intruder, repeatedly pointing out Grayson and Mina's attraction to one another. A much confused Jonathan sort of accidentally pulls the trigger and shoots Davenport in the chest. The only logical thing for Jonathan to do now is to stumble over to Lucy's house and start getting it on with her.

 

Family man Mr. Browning returns home only to find his two young children have been spirited away.

 

Renfield delivers the news of Lord Davenport's death to Dracula as well as the plot-twisting line of, "Mr. Harker worked out just as you planned." 

Boys Before Friends Episode 2

Admit it, you're curious. We all are.

 

 

We pick up where we left off last time with Zoey #1 being attacked in the girls locker room. (I'm going to call her Zoey #1 because the show is going to switch horses in midstream.) They've got her down on the floor when Oliver, the sensitive member of F4, comes in and gives one of the attackers the wimpiest backhand I've ever seen. A two-year-old could hit harder. Yet it seems to work as the three attackers slink off.

 

Oliver goes back to the broom closet/F4 HQ to confront Liam and his wig about sending the minions to rape Zoey. Liam defends himself. He never told the minions to rape Zoey, just to get rid of her. Perhaps you should be more specific next time, Liam. Just then the three rapists come into the broom closet to explain what went wrong. The F4 ... do something. You don't really see anything, just that the rapists all suddenly sink the floor as they cry out in pain.

 

Zoey #1 goes home to be comforted by her gal pals. They're watching TV when it is reported that model Jade Jones has decided to retire after a mere five years of working to devote more time to fighting human trafficking.

 

The F4 go to play basketball. The three rapists have been painted with the slogan "F4 Does Not Support Rape."

 

At another time (I guess) Liam and the gang are somewhere playing pool when an angry Zoey #1 barges in. She continues the show's tradition of barely slapping someone to express anger. But then she sees a picture taped to the wall of the three painted rapists and suddenly everything is kind of O.K.

 

Meanwhile the Mean Girls plot on getting rid of Zoey because she touched their hair.

 

Noah and Chase decide Zoey's a pretty good ol' gal and take her out to lunch. Noah informs Zoey that Oliver has been dating Jade Jones since way back. 

 

The Mean Girls act all friendly with Zoey and invite her to a fundraiser. Zoey admits she doesn't have anything fancy to wear to a gala. The Mean Girls assure her this is all low-key. Jeans and a T-shirt will be fine. 

 

Back in the broom closet, Liam gets the idea that Zoey is sweet on him. He decides to go to the one and only rehearsal room at this prestigious college to watch Zoey do her chicken dance. Liam can't understand why she's not bowled over by his stylin' and profilin'. Zoey criticizes his hair so perhaps this signals the end of that horrendous wig. Zoey storms out of the room and off-camera someone yells, "Cut."

 

Oh dear Lord. Oh dear Lord. If only I could show you a picture. In the next scene Liam goes to a hairdresser who is... Oh dear Lord. Part man (with a goatee), part woman (with breasts) and all Rainbow Brite hair. Rainbow Brite does the world's quickest haircut and suddenly Liam doesn't look so bad. (I don't know why the show had him wearing a wig in the first place.)

 

Next up, Liam sends the three rapists to abduct Zoey #1 from the rehearsal room. What a great idea: send her attackers to forcefully carry Zoey #1 off against her will. This time, however, they're specific orders are to take Zoey #1 to Rainbow Brite for a makeover that includes tattoo removal. Zoey #1 is transformed into Zoey #2.

 

Zoey #2 is dropped off at Liam's house. I'm ashamed to admit this but now that the dead raccoon is off of his head, Liam is looking pretty hot. Then he has to go open his mouth and make the stupid declaration that he's allowing Zoey #2 to be his secret girlfriend. Hot dudes should be silent dudes. Zoey #2 throws a drink in his face and storms out.

 

Later the F4 are playing basketball in a time warp. It's dusk. It's morning. It's dusk again. It's afternoon. Zoey #2 is walking by and Liam inquires as to why isn't she falling at his feet like all the other girls. Zoey gives him the "not if you were the last man on earth" speech.

 

Finally we get around to the fundraiser scene. Please ignore that long black cord on the floor. Zoey #2 and her gal pals show up in their casual street clothes. Suddenly that pesky time warp kicks in again and everything rewinds. The soundman didn't make it, I'm afraid, and you have to strain to hear what the "actors" are saying. Nikki, one of the Mean Girls/prostitutes, bitches at Zoey #2 and the gang for showing up at this swanky party wearing jeans. Chloe slaps Nikki on the ass while Piper just keeps on eating.

Can We Love Episode 1

Can We Love? - Yes.

 

Can We Act? - No.

 

Eugene is fresh off her hit, A Hundred Year's Inheritance. (Can you believe that show won an award for best drama? Can you?) Uhm Tae Woong is fresh off his horrible mistake, The Blade and the Petal. It's understandable why these two actors have been paired together. They're both very popular and they both can't act.

 

 

 

There's nothing like starting off your drama with shrill screaming. Oh, it's high school girls. That explains everything and why it's (Answer Me) 1995. It's taking a real stretch of the imagination to buy Eugene as a teenager. Yoon Jung Wan and her friends are going to her mother's salon for a makeover to celebrate being accepted into college. (Mom is Jung Soon Ok, played by Kim Hye Ok.)

 

Mom does a horrible job, IMO. Now all the "teenagers" look like the 30 year-old women they really are. Hold on to your hats, kids, as we're about to make a time jump to 2002. Jung Wan and her friends are still shrilly screaming as they watch a soccer match. Jung Wan is mighty pregnant at this time. Her husband, Han Joon Mo (played by Shim Hyung Tak), is a bit of a nerd. Good grief, I didn't recognize one of Jung Wan's friends is played by Kim Yoo Mi of Heartless City. 

 

Hold on to your hats again as we're zooming to the present. Jung Wan is divorced and working as a screenwriter. Her friend Kim Sun Mi (the part played by the aforementioned Yoo Mi) is an interior designer famous enough to be interviewed on TV. (Oh, Yoo Mi, what have they done to you? You were so slick and fine in Heartless City. Now they're making you look frumpy. I hope the DramaGods give you a makeover.)

 

Sun Mi is at a hotel getting frisky with one guy when Choi Yoon Suk (played by Park Min Woo, "Batman" from Scandal: A Shocking And Wrongful Incident) shows up. Sun Mi gives him the brush off, leaving the poor kid crying in the hallway. That's where he is when he's passed by Jung Wan and a television executive. She thinks they're coming to this hotel room for a business meeting. Are you really that naive at 39, Jung Wan? Since that job doesn't work out for her, Jung Wan must go to her fallback work at the grocery store. Hey, bills gotta get paid somehow.

 

Now it's time for Jung Wan and Sun Mi to check up on their other squealing friend, Kwon Ji Hyun (played by Choi Jung Yoon). Ji Hyun is married and a mother and seems to have it all. Those are the ones you have to look out for.

 

(You may be wondering, where's Uhm Tae Woong? He was shown briefly on the TV as he was given a directing award.)

 

Hold on to your hats, kids, as I'm about to time skip myself forward through this drama. So anyway, Jung Wan's ex-husband (who doesn't look so nerdy anymore) has got himself another girlfriend. She's a twit but she at least has a sensible brother in Ahn Do Young (played by Kim Sung Soo). Do Young is also in the entertainment industry and Jung Wan has a business meeting with him (NOT at a hotel) about her latest script. He's the one who brings up the idea of Jung Wan working with famed director Oh Kyung Soo.

 

Ji Hyun's mother-in-law (didn't I just see her in Princess Aurora?) is a bitch. What a surprise. Sun Mi overhears the guy she was getting frisky with talking smack about her.

 

Do Young takes Jung Wan to meet the director. Oh no, it's another empty hotel room. Jung Wan accuses Do Young of being a pervert. This is the embarrassing scene Kyung Soo walks in on. Sure that any hopes of a job are over, Jung Wan quickly leaves.

 

Blah, blah, blah, everyone is unhappy.

 

Ji Hyun is at a screening of Kyung Soo's award-winning film when she spots Do Young and has a definite "My first love that I gave up to marry a rich guy!" moment. Sun Mi goes to Yoon Suk to cry on his shoulder. A drunk Jung Wan gets into Kyung Soo's car, mistaking it for a time-traveling taxi, and cries that she wants to go to twenty years ago. Everyone cries. I'm crying. Feel free to cry.

 

Sun Mi goes to the home of Frisky Guy and trashes the place. Other stuff happens as I check out my Twitter page. Everyone's miserable and the episode ends.

Dracula Episode 7

Servant Of Two Masters

 

 

Now that he's gotten his nickel-steel alloy, Dracula is back to perfecting his steampunk thingy. He thinks the machine is ready for a public demonstration.

 

Jonathan Harker figures out it was his own employer, Alexander Grayson, who arranged the frame-up of General Shaw. While Harker swears to expose Grayson, Dracula coolly points out that if anyone is to blame it would be Harker himself.

 

Mr. Browning and the boys feel threatened by Grayson's steampunk thingy and plot how to take him down.

 

Renfield has been sent to Budapest in order to try and get the Dresden triptych.

 

Dracula gets tied down and injected with the solar serum again. Van Helsing fusses at the vampire for not having fed on blood since the actress. He keeps bringing this up so I take it this will be important later on.

 

Grayson takes a stroll through the sunny park so he can "accidentally" bump into Mina. Afterwards he stops by Lady Jayne's for some afternoon delight. Jayne is perturbed because her sickly husband claims he's fallen in love with his nurse. Grayson advises his lover to go after the other woman.

 

Mina wants to arrange a dance for the patients at her father's mental hospital.

 

The Thirst! The Thirst!

 

Renfield makes it to Budapest (where naturally everyone has a British accent) and the auction where the Dresden triptych is to be sold. Also in the bidding crowd is that guy with the road rash on his face. What was his name again? Anyway, he works for The Order. Renfield outbids everyone with 1 million coronas (which for all I know is ten bucks).

 

Lucy goes to Lady Jayne's Breasts for comfort and advice after Mina's rejection. Lady Jayne reassures Lucy that Mina treated the young lesbian abominably, thus setting up the scenario of Lucy getting some kind of revenge. Lady Jayne sets out to train Lucy in the arts of seduction so Lucy can get Harker to betray Mina.

 

Chief Inspector Morrow, at the behest of The Order, secretly tampers with some milk that is being dispensed to the neighborhood around Grayson's factory. (I'm now curious as to whether this is how milk was really delivered back in the 1800's.)

 

Renfield returns to London only to discover he's been a victim of the old switch-a-roo. The real triptych is now in the hands of Lord Davenport. He opens the small paneling to reveal three paintings of Dracula's dead 15th century wife. Davenport recognizes the resemblance to Mina Murray and now knows Grayson's weakness.

 

A bag is put over Harker's head and he's whisked away for a forced meeting with Mr. Browning and The Order of the Dragon. The shadowy figures try to win Harker over to the power of Big Oil and boo to Grayon's steampunk thingy.

 

Dracula brings a small orchestra to the asylum to play for Mina's dance. But the Thirst! The Thirst! Mina asks him to dance with her. The Thirst! Dracula comes close to snacking on Mina. Luckily she's wearing a cross pendant which brings him back to his senses.

 

Meanwhile at the factory the public has been invited for a demonstration of the steampunk thingy and glowing light bulbs. Outside along the street, whatever was put in the milk is making the neighborhood sick. Morrow breaks up the crowd in the factory, claiming that the illness was caused by Grayson's machine. The police lock the factory up and confiscate the machinery.

 

Dracula takes it out on Chief Inspector Morrow by finally satisfying The Thirst.

Rebel Angel Episode 3 - 4

Blond bitch Cristal is slap-happy mad at Lucia. Over what, I'm not sure. The birth of her hatred must have been left on the cutting room floor when they edited 200 + episodes down to just twenty-six.

 

Their fight draws everyone in the house down to the living room. Okay, I'm guessing here but I think back when Lucia was still a bus driver she was somehow involved in an accident with Cristal that totaled the bitch's car. Enriqueta (for the umpteenth time) fires Lucia. We're also introduced for the first time to red head Mariela, sister of Cristal and wife of Leonel.

 

Oh, it turns out Camilo, the guy who is in love with Natasha, is the brother of Dr. Claudio. BTW, Claudio has formerly asked Elena for permission to court Lucia.

 

Raul and his gigantic headband are walking along the road when Cristal stops to give him a lift. They end up totally making out on the side of the road. I don't think this constitutes an emergency.

 

For the umpteenth time Raul is jealous. For the umpteenth time Lucia is jealous. For the umpteenth time they get into a fight. When are you going to become a rebellious angel, Lucia? To be honest, so far y'all are the most boring couple on this show, and here you're supposed to be the stars!

 

Raul breaks up with Rubi. Blaming Lucia, Rubi gets into a hair-pulling fight with her rival while they're on a bus.

 

Raul and Lucia get back together. She wants to keep their relationship a secret, especially from her mother.

 

Some woman I've never seen before tells Natasha about Cristal having an affair with Ernesto. Cristal claims the other woman is a liar and they get into a cat fight.

 

Balbina, Enriqueta's head housekeeper, encounters a very much alive Elena. Elena begs the other woman not to tell anyone, especially Enriqueta.

 

Raul and Lucia make hot, sweet, fade-to-black, off-screen love to each other. Raul wants to marry her and struggles to find a way to get enough money to do it. Elena discovers her daughter has a secret boyfriend. She's enraged. Only because there could be a chance Lucia is pregnant does Elena allow the couple to get married. But they can't see (or more importantly, touch!) each other until the wedding.

 

Balbina tells Alejandro that Lucia is his daughter and that Elena is alive. For some reason he chooses not to reveal his real identity to his family. Perhaps he thinks he's protecting them as he pursues his mild vengeance against Enriqueta.

 

Raul's uncle, who doesn't approve of the marriage, throws the young man out of the house. As Raul is jaywalking across the street, Cristal accidentally hits him with her sports car. She takes him back to the mansion to nurse Raul back to health. Raul has to fight her off.

 

Elena goes to answer the door and is shocked speechless to see it's her mother. Enriqueta demands to know why her daughter has been in hiding for twenty years. Elena accuses Enriqueta of sending Joaquin (the dead guy from the first episode) to kill Alejandro and to rape Elena. Enriqueta calls her daughter "Stupido!" over and over as she slaps Elena around.

 

Because Lucia is the daughter of her grandmother's blood enemy, Enriqueta warns that Lucia will never be accepted into the Covarrubias family.

Rebel Angel Episode 1 - 2

This is another one of those telenovelas that have been edited to the bone so you've got to be prepared to protect yourself from whiplash.

 

 

We get a brief shot of young Lucia, who works as a bus driver and is well known and loved by her regulars.

 

ZOOM! We now go to the leopard-print deathbed of Manuela who is begging Elena, Lucia's mother, to tell Lucia about Alejandro Valderrama, the father she's never met. Elena has been in hiding for the past twenty years because...

 

ZOOM! During a raging storm she was almost raped by a man her mother had sent. Alejandro had just come to her rescue, stopping the sexual assault in time. The would-be rapist escapes out into the storm with Alejandro hot on the guy's heels. He catches up to the criminal and during their fight the other man is accidentally killed. Alejandro urges Elena to run and hide so her (extremely evil) mother can't find her. Alejandro goes to prison for murder. But now his time is served and he's about to become a free man, intent on finding his lost love and the child he's never known. Oh, and also work in some revenge against Enriqueta Covarrubias. That's a mouthful of a name.

 

ZOOM! It's Patricio from Wild Cat! And there's the fat housekeeper as well! Ah, familiar faces. In fact the guy playing Alejandro looks familiar like he was also in Wild Cat. But I digress...  Anyway, Manuela dies and everyone cries.

 

Alejandro, fresh from prison, has moved in with his friend, Claudio the doctor. Alejandro goes out for a stroll around the neighborhood and happens to bump into Lucia, but of course he doesn't realize this is his child.

 

Lucia is sweet on Raul, who is kind enough to give us his backstory in a few sentences. Orphaned. Living with aunt and uncle. Aunt doesn't want him around. He drives the strangest little golf cart thingy I've ever seen.

 

Elsewhere in Miami (I still don't understand why Venezuelan shows aren't filmed in Venezuela) we get to know blond bitch Cristal. She's the granddaughter of Enriqueta and is scheming to become Grandma's only heir to the family's chain of jewelry stores. Standing in Cristal's way are her two sisters, Natasha and Mariela. And what about that mysterious Aunt Elena? Did she really drown in the river as everyone assumes?

 

Lucia has gotten fired from her job and cries on the sympathetic shoulder of her new neighbor, Alejandro. ZOOM! Lucia gets a job as a maid at the Covarrubias estate. She must work hard to win over her cantankerous boss (and secret grandmother), Enriqueta.

 

It wouldn't be a Venezuelan telenovela if Lucia didn't have all these other men falling in love/lust with her. One of them is Dr. Claudio, secret dad's friend and roommate. The other guy is Juan, who just now showed up so I have no idea what his story is. I think he's the gardener at the Covarrubias place. Lastly there's Raul's skanky (and married) uncle.

 

Meanwhile, Lucia's secret cousin, Natasha, is having problems in her marriage with Ernesto. Her co-worker and potential love interest, Camilo, tries to push Natasha into dropping her husband once and for all. Cristal doesn't help the marriage any by seducing Ernesto.

 

Alejandro finally confronts Enriqueta and demands to know where Elena is. Enriqueta delights in telling her enemy that the love of his life as well as his child are both dead. Alejandro doesn't believe her.

 

Lucia is still having trouble with that crazy Juan. He attacks Lucia, threatening her with a knife. When Elena comes to her daughter's aid, she's the one who ends up stabbed. (I wasn't expecting that!) She's rushed to the hospital where Dr. Claudio is able to save Elena's life. Later, Alejandro comes to the hospital room as a courtesy call on Lucia's mother. But Elena is asleep and on her side so Alejandro doesn't see that the woman is his long lost love.

 

Lucia and Raul keep falling in and out of love (which gets old really fast). Right now they're on the outs. To make Raul jealous, Lucia claims she's going to be the girlfriend of Juan (the man who stabbed her mother!) In retaliation, Raul acts like he's interested in the local slut, Rubi.

Passionate Love Episode 1

It starts with one of those stuffy dinners rich people like to throw for themselves to celebrate how rich they are. This one is to celebrate Sin Sung Dairy. No vegans allowed. Grandpa, the founder of the company (whose already got one foot in the grave) announces how after his death the company will pass to his son-in-law, President Kang Moon Do (played by Jun Kwang Ryul).

 

Suddenly a crazy man at the back of the banquet hall breaks a champagne bottle to use as a weapon as he shouts for Moon Do's head. This guy blames Sin Sung Dairy for driving his own little business into bankruptcy. Before anyone can get hurt, young Kang Moo Yeol (at the moment played by Lee Won Geun)comes up from behind and is able to disarm the crazed ahjussi.

 

While that guy is dealt with, he's not the only bitter man Moon Do has to contend with today. In the lobby he runs into Director Han Sung Bok (played by Kang Shin Il). Director Han used to work at Sin Sung but he left to start his own dairy business and to get away from the unethical evil that is Moon Do. Han's business is not booming, though, and is facing financial difficulties.

 

Moo Yeol catches his father trying to strong-arm the crazed man and actually comes to the little guy's defense. An enraged Moon Do slaps his son for such insolence. Grandpa just happens to arrive on the scene and chastises Moon Do both for slapping Moo Yeol as well as poorly handling the crazy man.

 

Meanwhile Director Han drives his really odd looking vehicle back home so we can meet his wife and two daughters: eldest Han Yoo Rim (played by Seo Joo Hyun), who is studying to be a veterinarian, and young Han Yoo Jung (played for the moment by Lee Hye In), who has a pet cow.

 

Moo Yeol, in his brown school uniform, must deal with a group of bullies in blue school uniforms. They're here to avenge their fallen comrade that Moo Yeol took down off screen. Lame fight scene. Moo Yeol wins the fight but is injured in the process.

 

Seeing his son's bruised face, Moon Do demands to know who Moo Yeol has been fighting. It hasn't been that long since the last time the boy was in trouble for the same thing. The two argue with Moo Yeol storming off to his room. He digs out an old DNA test he had found years ago in his father's office. Unfortunately I'm watching this over at DramaFever and they don't subtitle what's written so I don't know what the test results are.

 

Meanwhile at a posh apartment we're introduced to young Hong Soo Hyuk (right now played by Yeo Eui Joo) and his mother, Hong Nan Cho (played by Hwang Shin Hye). Soo Hyuk is Moon Do's secret son! Nan Cho thinks if she just hangs in there long enough, Moon Do will come back to her and it will be their son who inherits the dairy business. Soo Hyuk doesn't care about the money, he just wants a father who doesn't hide him.

 

Moo Yeol is hanging out on campus where his uncle works. This is where he first spots Yoo Rim and is instantly smitten. He knocks her to the ground in order to save Yoo Rim from being run over by a bicycle. (I think I'd rather take my chances with the bike.) This causes Moo Yeol's previous injury from the fight to start bleeding again. Yoo Rim, veterinarian-in-training, offers to tend to his wound. Yoo Rim thinks Moo Yeol is a college student like herself. He doesn't correct her.

 

Grandpa is in his spacious office and look, he's got a rocking chair! I think that's the first rocking chair I've ever seen in a Kdrama. I was beginning to wonder if Korea doesn't have any. But I digress...  Grandpa gets a mysterious envelope. Inside are a couple of pictures of Moon Do with his secret family. Grandpa has his assistant to secretly investigate.

Although I would understand if the glass cabinet swore vengeance against Moon Do.)
