Three Kingdoms Episode 39

My Sims game keeps crashing so I might as well watch this instead.

Zhou Yu goes to break the news to his wife that they'll be separated for several months as he heads off to battle Cao Cao. Xiao Qiao surprises him with the news she's had both their things packed as she fully intends to go with him. He tries to talk her out of it, warning her of the hardships ahead, but Xiao Qiao is stubborn about it. Being the wuss he is, Zhou Yu gives in to her.

Zhuge Liang is also packing when he receives a visit from his older brother, Zhuge Jin. Jin is an adviser to the Sun clan and apparently is part of the plan to try and get Liang to jump ship and come work for Zhou Yu. Liang counters with his own proposal to his brother for him to jump ship and come work for Liu Bei. It all ends in a stalemate.

Zhou Yu and his army move out. Once they reach the fortress at Xiakou, he calls for Zhuge Liang to hold a strategy meeting. They recall when Cao Cao with few men defeated Yuan Shao who had the greater number of men. They want to adapt Cao Cao's strategy for their own, which means cutting off his army's food supplies. Zhou Yu has learned most of the supplies are being stored at Mt. Jutie. He asks for Zhuge Liang to lead a nighttime raid against Mt. Jutie and destroy the food. Liang, who's not exactly a front of the line kind of a guy anyway, agrees and leaves to go get things ready. 

Lu Su, seeing Zhuge Liang leaving in a hurry, asks his lord what's up. Zhou Yu explains he's planning to basically let Cao Cao get rid of Zhuge Liang for him as he doesn't expect Liang to survive the raid. 

Lu Su, sent by Zhou Yu, goes to see how the preparations are going. He asks Big Fan if he's really going to do this. Zhuge Liang replies he's the only one who can do it since Zhou Yu knows only naval tactics, not land tactics, and so couldn't succeed. When Lu Su reports this back to his master, Zhou Yu gets pissed off and changes the plans. Now he's going to be the one leading the night raid. Just as Zhuge Liang planned it.

Zhou Yu, you are so gullible.

Xiao Qiao has the guts to approach her husband and try to convince him to give up his plans of getting Zhuge Liang off'd one way or the other. We're supposed to be allies. What good would it do us to have him killed now? Zhou Yu can't handle the truth and sends his wife back home.

Zhuge Liang tells Lu Su he knew all along what Zhou Yu's plans were for him. He can't understand why Zhou Yu is so obsessed with him. As Xiao Qiao just said, they're supposed to be allies. They should have their guard up against Cao Cao, not against each other.

In the end there is no nighttime raid to Mt. Jutie.

Cao Cao's CGI warships have been spotted up the CGI River. Zhou Yu goes personally to reconnoiter the situation. He wants the enemy to see him and give chase so he can see for himself how Cao Cao's ships handle, how their crews work, what kind of firepower they have and such. Zhou Yu orders a few arrows to fly but this ends up to be yet another Battle That Takes Place Off Screen.

Cai Mao, Cao Cao's naval man in charge, has to report back on his failure of defeating Zhou Yu. But never fear, he has another plan. Cao Cao allows him to go do that do that he does. Meanwhile, adviser Jiang Gan offers to meet secretly with his childhood friend Zhou Yu and talk him into coming over to the Han side.

Zhou Yu is missing his wife but he won't be missing her for long as she has returned to his side. They've just been reunited when Zhou Yu hears his old friend, Jiang Gan, has stopped by for a visit. Zhou Yu knows Jiang Gan is Cao Cao's man. With Xiao Qiao's help, Zhou Yu has a plan.

He goes out to greet his childhood friend and totally believe that he isn't Cao Cao's spy. He welcomes Jiang Gan in with a big ol' drinking party. Xiao Qiao's body double does a sword dance for entertainment as the men drink and drink. When Jiang Gan compliments Xiao Qiao's skills with a sword, Zhou Yu mentions his lord's sister, Sun Xiaomei, is even more talented. Is this the first mention of Ruby Lin's character? Does this mean she'll finally be appearing? I can only hope.

A (supposedly) drunken Zhou Yu takes his friend back to his private quarters for more drinking and talking about the old days. Zhou Yu appears to pass out and Jiang Gan starts snooping around, looking for secret battle plans and stuff.
