The King's Dream Episode 17

Chunchu announces he is here to cut off Prince Uija's head for betraying the alliance. To everyone's surprise, Uija gives him permission to do just that and orders Sweet Abs to allow Chunchu to leave after the deed is done. Uija closes his eyes and awaits the death blow. Chunchu turns his sword around and thrusts the butt of it into Uija's torso. (Kind of like what Jet Li did to the Emperor in the movie Hero.) Chunchu tells the prince he still believes the alliance can be mended, then he and his gang take off.

They return back to camp where Chunchu unfolds his plans. He'll have Yushin's dad lead a contingent against the fortress of Nangbiseong. Chunchu wants them to fail.

It is a foggy morning the day they filmed attack. Kim Seo Hyun rides up to the gates and starts trash talking, running both Goguryeo and Baekje down. Prince Uija acts all offended and orders some men to sally out and attack. Its all part of the plan.

Meanwhile back in Silla nothing has really changed. The old farts fart around. Deokman continues to beg for food and reinforcements. Queen Seungman is now wearing peacock feathers in her hair. (Whoever is in charge of her hair is having a field day on this show. Its like Hair Wars every episode. You just never know what to expect.)

Deokman collects hair ornaments from the womenfolk in order to buy rice to send to the front. Seungman plans to have the food destroyed as soon as it sets out for the army. Deokman is expecting something like this from the queen and is trying to devise a plan when she has a surprise visit from Bihyeong. He offers to transport the supplies by boat and make sure it gets to the men who need it. (I still fear there will be some heart flutterings from Deokman for him at some time in the show.)

The Silla men are hungry and mutinous. Yushin's bug-eyed brother, Kim Heumsun, is the loudest complainer. Chunchu himself whips Heumsun in front of the other soldiers as an example of what happens to mutineers. Yushin returns and sees his brother being punished. Chunchu and Yushin argue loudly in front of the soldiers with Yushin throwing down his sword and stating he's going back to the capital.

Again, this is all part of the plan. One of the Silla soldiers is a turncoat. He reports back to Prince Uija and the Goguryeo leader about the discord in the Silla camp and the exit of Yushin. This makes the Goguryeo overconfident.

The Gwimun deliver the food rations without incident. Darn, I was kind of hoping for a fight.

Back home, pregnant Munhui is whipping Beopmin for stealing her jewelry.  (He gave a hairpin to Yeonhwa.) Grandma Cheonmyeong, like all grandmas everywhere, comes in to defend her grandson. She tries to take the whip from Munhui's hand. The two women struggle over it with Munhui getting knocked down to the floor. Just like that the baby is coming and Munhui faints.

Chunchu has his soldiers fall in and gives them a rousing "To Victory" speech. There's a pile of rice sacks in front of him. He says he's going to offer this rice to the heavens for victory and then he... sets fire to it! Boy, I hope that wasn't all the food that was sent. I mean, a symbolic amount as a sacrifice I can understand. But if that was all the food and here they are starving...  Anyway, the turncoat tries to make the slip but he's cut down by Chabi.

Up on the battlements at Nanbiseong, Prince Uija and the Goguryeo commander can see the smoke from the fire and figure it is the Silla army burning their rice before retreating back to the capital. The commander decides now is the time to strike and sends out most of his forces to attack.

Kim Seo Hyun and his men are acting like they are retreating so the enemy will follow them. Kim Yushin gives a rousing speech to his warrior mimes and they attack the Goguryeo from the side. Seo Hyun then has his men turn and come back to attack the front. The Goguryeo try to retreat only to have the third arm, led by Chunchu's dad, cut them off.

During all this Chunchu and his small band sneak into Nanbiseong and start a fire as a distraction. As everyone is running around trying to put the fire out, Chunchu's people attack the gates to get them open. This is when Sweet Abs and his Baekje start cutting down the soldiers up on the battlements. Its all rather confusing.

(No wonder Choi Soo Jong got injured by this show. They really shouldn't ask a man his age to do all these stunts.)

Chunchu and his party are able to open up the gates so Yushin and his warrior mimes can ride through and take over the fortress.

But its not over yet. Yushin recalls his orders from Queen Seungman to bring her the head of Prince Uija if the Baekje betray them. He starts to do just that. Chunchu must come to Uija's defense and talk Yushin out of destroying any future good relations between Silla and Baekje.

The army returns home to a victory celebration. Chunchu learns his wife has given birth to a (huge) baby boy. Beopmin looks perturbed so his father gives him the ol' Three Kingdoms speech to cheer him up.

Bihyeong and his Gwimun are up in their mountain celebrating the victory they helped bring about. Bohui swings by to welcome him home. Bihyeong has to get all mean and nasty on her, telling Bohui he was never really interested in her and she should stop bothering him. As she leaves in tears we see that Bihyeong isn't too dry eyed himself. Young Yeonhwa comes over and gives him what for for making Bohui cry.

Seungman and Yushin have another private meeting. She still insists on having Uija's head, so Yushin can either bring it to her or he can give up his position and leave the city in exile.

Chunchu is in his office in deep thought when Bug Eyes comes running in with bad news. The body of Geomgun has been found. Oh, that was the honest guy who was murdered when he discovered the contaminated rice. Chunchu knows that the queen is behind this somehow.
