Office Girls Episode 5

Mmmm. Chocolate chip cookies. So bad for me, yet so totally good! Anyway, where was I?

Still being crushed by her guilt, Xing Ren goes to Zi Qi and confesses what really happened with the bottles of wine. He's understanding and (rightfully) points out he's at least responsible for one bottle being broken.

Zi Qi goes to his dad and tries to talk the old man into giving Xing Ren a break, but Dad is old school and believes everyone (including his son) should take responsibility for their actions. They get into a fight and Zi Qi says no wonder Mom left. Just what is the story with Mom? I guess that's for later episodes.

Zi Qi is called to the office of the Human Resources Vice President. This is Feng Ren Yue, whose character name I was unable to catch from before. She's an old colleague of Dad's (so close Zi Qi calls her "Auntie") and the only other person at the company who knows about the deal with Zi Qi and his one year trial. She's also the only one who calls him Jason. Why, I don't know. Anyway, she shows him a formal complaint from Manager Shi Te Long that recommends Zi Qi be fired. Zi Qi argues he didn't hit the guy, Shi Te Long fell. Auntie warns him that the only way he can keep is job is to formally apologize.

Shi Te Long - good grief, even his Godzilla doll has a neck brace on! Anyway, Zi Qi makes a begrudging apology to the manager. Shi Te Long still insists that Zi Qi pay for the wine. Xing Ren comes up (because this sales manager has absolutely no office of his own and a very small desk so all of this is happening in front of everybody) and claims partial responsibility. Shi Te Long just thinks she's sticking up for her boyfriend. Xing Ren finally tells the whole truth to her boss. He is not pleased. The only one who is pleased is that bitch, Mandy.

That night, when Zi Qi comes upstairs for dinner, he overhears Xing Ren telling Le Le about her plans to resign from the company. She plans to go visit her mother for a short while, then come back and start over. Always thinking of others, she's gone ahead and bought some groceries for Zi Qi so he won't starve while she's gone.

As he's putting up the groceries, Zi Qi has an awful lot of flashbacks for a show only on its fifth episode. The entire time he's squatting in front of the open refrigerator and I'm screaming at my screen to "Close it! You're letting all the cold out! Close the friggin' door!"

The next day Xing Ren turns in her resignation and packs up her desk. As she slowly walks through the store to the exit she encounters a giant green dinosaur. Its Zi Qi wearing the costume from the first episode. He does a little dance for her and hands her a balloon with "Good Luck" written on it. He begs her not to go, promising he'll come to work on time and he'll even eat broccoli, just stay. Xing Ren throws her arms around him and bawls her eyes out. Gold digger Kai Er watches from afar.

Xing Ren goes back to her childhood home to receive comfort from Mom, which I totally understand. Been there, done that. However, she just tells Mom she felt like visiting and doesn't mention she's out of a job.

Back at the store Kai Er invites Zi Qi out to lunch, her treat. I learn that Taiwan has Subway stores. All he wants to talk about is Xing Ren. Kai Er doesn't look like she's ... you know what, I never know what this actress is supposed to be thinking or feeling. She really has the same expression no matter what is going on. She's not a very good actress.

Zi Qi badgers Le Le into telling him where Xing Ren's mother lives. He drops by and Mom is all excited for her single daughter to be visited by a hot guy. Xing Ren pulls him outside to warn him not to say anything about her recent unemployment. He hands Xing Ren a check (at least I think it's a check) saying the money is for his share of their troubles. Xing Ren wonders where he got all this money, even guessing he's become a boy toy for some rich woman, when she notices his watch is gone. Zi Qi went and pawned his expensive designer watch, which I've been wondering why he didn't do that before when he had no money for food, but at least the show has finally dealt with it.
