Office Girls Episode 4

This episode is brought to you by Shen Xing Ren's guilt trip. Seriously, nothing much happens in this episode because she's so busy angsting.

This episode is also brought to you by mooncakes. Not to be confused with moon pies. Mooncakes are very important in Chinese culture, whereas moon pies are important to Southern Culture on the Skids.

The mid Autumn festival is coming up and the sales department and merchandise department are battling it out with mooncake gift boxes. Zheng Kai Er and Qin Zi Qi have some more bonding moments as they share their common problems. Kai Er has her boss, VP Creepy Touchy, breathing down her neck (as well as other parts) while Zi Qi's manager, Shi Te Long, has tasked him with selling 1,000 VIP store cards.

Meanwhile, Shi Te Long gets all sorts of screen time this episode as he's also busy making Xing Ren's life miserable. He orders her to go pick up four expensive bottles of red wine and bring them back to the store to use them in an advertisement. As she's carrying the wooden box of wine bottles out to a taxi cab, she's nearly run over by a motorcycle and she drops the box. Three of the four bottles have broken.

Altogether, the cost of the three bottles is around $30,000, which is how much Xing Ren has saved up over the years for her house. She could pay back for the wine but then she would have to start all over again for her house fund, as well as pull out of the building contract she just signed with Zi Qi's friend last episode.

However, Le Le comes up with a plan. She soaks the broken wine bottles in water until she can peel off the labels. Then it is a simple process of slapping those labels onto some much cheaper wine she bought at the corner store. There, problem solved. Xing Ren still worries that when the wine is returned to the collector he'll notice right away it isn't the right wine. Le Le pragmatically says they'll cross that bridge when they get to it.

As I said, nothing much happens in this episode as Xing Ren is slowly crushed by her own guilt. There is one brief funny moment when Zi Qi's power is turned off. When Xing Ren asks him if he paid for his electricity, Zi Qi is dumbfounded that you're expected to pay for it. But then we're back to the oh woe is me part. Zi Qi can tell that something is weighing on her and keeps asking what the problem is, but Xing Ren just tells him to mind his own business.

The department store is planning to sell a mooncake gift box for $1,000 NT. Zi Qi messes with the website and changes the price to a mere $10 NT. The orders pour in before the change is discovered. Shi Te Long is ready to have a heart attack but Zi Qi is cool as a cucumber. He's already called the media and arranged to have a press conference to announce that the store will not be honoring the 10,000 orders put in.

A slew of reporters gather around. The press conference starts off being handled by Shi Te Long, but Zi Qi steps in and takes over. First he corrects the press that it wasn't 10,000 orders but only around 1,300, and they will be honored. Furthermore, any online orders for the mooncake gift box will be with a 30% discount and a VIP card.

Back at the office, Zi Qi explains to the team that even with the discounts and the 1,300 really cheap gift boxes, the loss is still only a fraction of what they would have spent on advertising alone. But today they got all sorts of free publicity.

Zi Qi's dad saw the press conference and he calls his wayward son to the mansion. Zi Qi thinks he's going to get praised. Instead, Dad jumps down his throat saying Zi Qi stepped way out of line. He's just a mere sales assistant. He had no right to take over the press conference and speak for the store. In return the son jumps on the father's case. The department store is in some serious need of a cleaning out of corrupt managers and Dad needs to stop turning a blind eye to the problem.

Back at Jingshi, Shi Te Long orders Xing Ren to stop dilly dallying and get those bottles of wine back to the owner. She knows it has come time to cross the bridge, but what to do about it. She rides up an escalator, she rides down. She rides up, she -- whoa, there's Zi Qi who's been watching her all along. He sees the wooden box of wine bottles in her arms and he offers to take them back. They struggle over the box and boom boom boom it goes crashing down the escalator.

Shi Te Long is beside himself when he learns about the broken wine bottles. Zi Qi accepts the fault of making Xing Ren drop the box. She, meanwhile, isn't too swift to reveal that the bottles were fake - well, except for that one. So yeah, he needs to pay for that one bottle. Anyway, Shi Te Long keeps poking Zi Qi in the chest. Zi Qi's had enough and he forcefully pushes the manager back. Te Long launches himself at the younger man. Zi Qi simply steps aside and the manager falls to the floor, hitting his head on the furniture on the way down.

They take their boss to the emergency room. As Zi Qi and Xing Ren wait for the results, she starts to tell him the truth about the wine when Shi Te Long is wheeled out. He's wearing a neck brace and swearing vengeance on Zi Qi. Zi Qi storms off.
