Lotus Lantern Episode 1

Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state. Then the goddess Nu Wuo stole some heavenly flame to separate the earth from the sky. The flame eventually turned into the lotus lantern of said show title. A mere 100,000 years later the goddess San Seng Mu (played by Park Si Yeon) is the guardian of the lantern.

Mortal Liu Yan Chang (played by Liu Xiao Feng) is traveling along Mount Hua when the idiot takes a wrong turn and starts to fall down a steep cliff. Lucky for him San Seng Mu is there to save him. The two fall in love and marry although it is against the rules. 

A year later the couple are cooing over their son, Chen Xiang, when a storm suddenly blows up. San Seng Mu orders her husband to take their baby inside for she knows this storm is bad news. Its her older brother Er Lang Shen (played by Vincent Jiao) and boy, does he hang around some weird looking people. He's also known as Yang Jian and I am already confused.

Bro is here to take his sister back up to heaven to face her punishment for consorting with the humans. He orders his army to apprehend her. San Seng Mu uses the power of the lotus lantern to fight back. Knowing she's outnumbered and fearing for her family's safety, San Seng Mu sends the lantern to Liu Yan Chang to carry him and the baby away while she continues to battle her brother.

Yang Jian opens up a large crack in the earth and sends his sister plummeting to the depths. She lands inside a circle that creates a force field of sorts, thus trapping her beneath Mount Hua.

Sixteen years later and slacker son Chen Xiang (played by Cao Jun) has the power to magically make paper lanterns and boss CGI wasps around. I'm not really impressed with your superpowers so far, Chen Xiang.

Meanwhile up in the sky, the Emperor of Heaven really needs to get his eyebrows plucked. The very important Peach Ceremony is coming up and the Empress orders Yang Jian to go tell his sister San Seng Mu to make all the arrangements as she does these things so well. Hmm, seems they don't know about San Seng Mu being imprisoned. One would think the Emperor of Heaven would know everything.

Yang Jian goes to visit his sister in her prison. He's kept her sin a secret so far and if she'll just admit she did a bad thing he'll set her free. San Seng Mu refuses.

At last Chen Xiang discovers a useful power: the ability to walk through walls. Now stop running around like an idiot.

Yang Jian sends his celestial dog to search the earth for his sister's husband and child.

Chen Xiang reveals his slightly better than ordinary powers to Liu Yan Chang and is surprised when his father is not surprised. Yan Chang tells his son to not tell anyone about his powers. Of course the first thing Chen Xiang does is show off to his friends.

All this magic draws the attention of Er Lang Shen. In disguise he appears before the boy and is disappointed at Chen Xiang's low expectations. I thought Yang Jian was out to kill the kid but instead he plans to help and protect Chen Xiang.
