LEX Episode 5

It's Mario's birthday. Dani is reminiscing over how it was for her last year, happy and in love. Now she's betrayed, pregnant and alone. Mario comes to work acting all happy and bright but only to Gonzalo how miserable he really is.

The main case today is Ines Alis Galvez vs. Electya, an electric company.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, Electya put up a high voltage pylon near Ines' home. While it was erected within the legal limit, Ines now has cancer and blames the pylon for causing her illness. The case is a risk for LEX as there is no definitive proof that high voltage pylons can cause cancer. Mario is all for taking it on, even though poor Ines can't pay their high fee. If the firm wins the case, their name will be on everyone's top list and they can take a cut of Ines' winnings.

LEX is all excited over a visit from Electya's lawyer. He's the legendary Jaime Marall, the former teacher of Mario, Dani and Gonzalo. He's also the father of Silvia Marall, a minor lawyer in the firm and part of the love triangle between her, David and Eli.

Dani is working with David on her case. She's representing Tacho Santana, a porn star. He's currently working on a film with a ridiculous title. The lead actress is Lena Quintero, wife of the director. Tacho claims Lena is purposely sabotaging his "performance" and undermining his "concentration", if you know what I mean. If you don't, here it is in plain English: he claims while filming she keeps saying things to him that causes Tacho to lose his erection.

Mario learns Dani has an appointment tomorrow for an ultrasound. He'd really like to be there with her but Dani doesn't want him.

Dani and David go to the film set to witness Lena's actions for themselves. They don't announce themselves as lawyers, of course, so Tacho has told everyone the pair are also porn actors. And action! Tacho and Lena are starting their scene and sure enough she whispers something in his ear and he loses his erection. Since this has been happening too often, the director fires Tacho. Tacho in turn introduces Dani and David as his lawyers and announces he plans to sue.

Back at the office, Tacho admits to his lawyers that he and Lena were having an affair. Lena got really serious about it and was wanting to leave her husband for her co-star. Tacho is a commitmentphobe and so he backed off. But whenever they "act" together she keeps saying how much she loves and wants to be with him.

Working on the Galvez case, Silvia hacks into Electya's files (which I believe is totally illegal and not permissible in court, but anyway...) and discovers some dirt.

Dani has come to Mario's apartment to pick up the last of her things. The two are going through the photos to divide them up but the pictures only remind them of good times. Feeling mellow, Dani mentions she hasn't gotten Mario anything for his birthday. He asks for only one thing: to be there for the ultrasound.

Mario and Gonzalo make an offer to Marall to settle the case for one million euros. Marall won't agree to it.

Thanks to Gonzalo's talk ("You get to have sex all day with each other in front of her husband. What is the problem?!") Tacho and Lena resume their affair and he calls off the case.

Silvia meets with her father about her findings on the company he's representing. Marall gets all emotional. After forty years of practicing he doesn't want to lose his last case. His daughter is like, what do you mean you're last case? Marall lets on that he's fatally ill but he doesn't want Silvia's or anybody's pity.

The next day at the office Silvia decides not to tell her bosses what she found. Marall shows up, acting complacent, and agrees to the one million settlement. 

Dani has given permission for Mario to be present for the ultrasound. As soon as he gets there the doctor allows him to take over the ultrasound while she goes off to her office. (WTF! No doctor does that! And if your doctor does do that, you need to get yourself another doctor.) Mario gets quite emotional at seeing his child. So emotional he faints at Dani's bedside.

The firm is throwing Mario a birthday party at the local watering hole they so like to frequent. Everyone is there, including Silvia's dad, Marall. Something dad says during a toast makes her curious. She pulls Marall to a back room to talk. She tells him how she betrayed her company by not giving them important information. Dad admits he was playing her for a fool. He's not ill at all. If Mario and Gonzalo had the information Silvia knew, they could have taken Electya for double digit millions, not just the one.

Out at the party, Mario and Dani are feeling genially towards each other and getting cozy. Mario makes a move to kiss Dani but she walks away before contact is made. Depressed, Mario downs several drinks one after another before heading for the backroom to hide. Only he finds a devastated Silvia already there. Down in the dumps Mario and down in the dumps Silvia have a down in the dumps make out session and then leave together to have down in the dumps sex.

But not before Mario's sister Eli spots them.
