Chunchu and his mates refuse to budge unless the king cancels the wedding. Everybody starts to argue back and forth. Kim Yushin and his armored cavalry ride up. Chunchu is glad to see his old friend but not for long as Yushin orders the Hwarang to disperse or else. He's made his choice. The armed soldiers wade into the crowd and break up the protestors with brute force.
Back at the Hwarangdo, Horim (the head guy) expels Chunchu from the organization and has the other rebel Hwarang beaten. Horim decides to resign from his post and take all the blame in order to save the Hwarangdo from being dismantled. He expects Yushin to take over and unite the Hwarang.
After cutting off all ties with his former friend, Chunchu goes off to have himself a private cry.
Yushin goes to the waterfall (they love filming there) and has a flashback to scenes we didn't see before. Both the Prime Minister and Kim Yongchun knew beforehand that Yushin would not join the protest and instead suppress it. This was in order to save Chunchu from being executed for treason.
Bihyeong pops up out of nowhere (as he always does) to tell Yushin that Cheongwan is back. Yushin eagerly races to meet her, only to find his lady love acting all cold towards him. Cheongwan breaks up with him because he betrayed the cause. But after Yushin leaves in disgust, she breaks down and cries. This was for his own good.
After the ceremony to make him leader of the Hwarando, Kim Yushin meets with Queen Sado and her mini-me. First the queen warns him that if he keeps close with Chunchu then he'll lose his position. Then she orders Yushin to be the escort for the royal wedding. Meanwhile, Nutty Buddy warns Yongchun to send his son somewhere far away if he wants Chunchu to live. Before he sends his son away, Yongman begs Chunchu to forgive Yushin and take him back. Chunchu won't. It's all about the cause, man. The Cause!
The wedding goes through and Deokman marries her uncle. That evening Nutty Buddy is all anxious to bed his niece. Which is just icky. Ick, ick, ick. He and Deokman get into a fight and he leaves in a huff. Mini-me reports back to Queen Sado, who is now upset that Nutty Buddy isn't in there making inbred babies with his wife. When Sado goes to urge him to get back in there and win one for the Gipper, Nutty Buddy physically tosses her aside and goes off to have another psychotic episode.
King Jinpyeong offers to annul the marriage but Deokman refuses. She wants to try and make Nutty Buddy into a worthy king. By now, though, Nutty Buddy is nothing but an empty shell, staring off into space. Queen Sado isn't doing so well herself. She admits to Sukheoljong that this wedding was probably a mistake. Sado asks that if anything happens to her, the Prime Minister will make Seungman (Mini-me) the king's concubine.
Cheongwan is off praying for Yushin when Gildal shows up wearing his Phantom of the Opera mask.
Bihyeong sneaks into the private quarters of Queen Sado. She's expecting him and asks her grandson (which he technically is) after her death to protect Seungman. Who is this girl? Why is she so important?
The next day Yushin receives a message from Gildal, saying he's got Cheongwan. Yushin rides off to her rescue. Because fighting on dry land is for the weak, Gildal and Yushin splash around in a shallow creek (while it never occurs to Cheongwan to get the hell out of there while her captor is distracted. It's not like she's tied to a tree or anything.) As Gildal knocks Yushin down and is about to deliver the death blow, Cheongwan comes up behind him and pokes the killer with an itty bitty pen knife she has on her. Gildal just turns around and disembowels the girl with his halberd. (See, I told you to run! But noooooo... Let this be a lesson to you, kids. If you've got a chance to run away, take it!) Fueled by the desire to avenge his lady love, Yushin finally slays Gildal.
Time passes. Ten years go by in a whirl and we're now at 622 A.D. (Or C.E. if you're P.C.) We see a shirtless man who needs to put his shirt back on. This is the grown-up Kim Yushin, now played by Kim Yoo Suk. He's being attacked by water ninjas. When will these people ever learn to stay away from the water? Yushin is able to take care of most of the ninjas with the last one being taken out by his brother, Kim Heumsun. Yushin figures the ninjas were from Goguryeo. Heumsun had just dropped by to tell his brother about Chunchu being back in Seorabeol. Yushin races off to reunite with his old friend, played now by the really old Choi Soo Jong.
And here's my beef. I like Choi Soo Jong. Loved him in Comrades. But he's just too old to be playing this part. At least at this part of Chunchu's life. Maybe at the later half of the king's life, I could see. When the kids were playing, Chunchu seemed to be the youngest if not the shortest of our main protagonists. Now Chunchu looks like he's old enough to be everyone's father (although he still is the shortest.) Choi Soo Jong is around fifty years-old and he looks every bit of it. The make-up department will have quite a job on their hands.
