As Moo Yung is taking aim with his arrow at Ji Sang, Dong Yoon arrives below and demands to know what's going on. Moo Yung recognizes the one eyed man and decides it is more important to report this back to his boss than to kill the kid. Lee Sung Gye also recognizes Dong Yoon. I mean, how many one-eyed men do you meet in a lifetime? Dong Yoon begs the general to give him one hour with his son before the soldiers take him off for questioning concerning the recent assassination attempt. Sung Gye leaves an inept guard behind.
Ji Sang shows the drawing of his father to Dong Yoon, who realizes they're all in danger and says they must escape quickly. Madame Chun and the girls distract the guards and drug them so the two men can get away. There's a tearful goodbye between Ji Sang and Chun, the closest thing he's ever had to a mother.
Once again throwing off the flow of the story, we must go to Young Ji and her students. She learns about her son, Jung Geun, having a Chinese compass and must punish him for having illegal contraband. (I have a bone to pick but I don't know who with: the writers or the editors or what. You don't have a dramatic scene suddenly cut in by a light - and frankly unimportant - scene, and then whip right back to the dramatic. That's not a transition, that's an interruption.)
Back to what's more important. Dong Yoon and Ji Sang make it outside of the giseang house. Stopping off at a restaurant (that's what it looks like so that's what I'm going to call it) the father orders the boy to stay put while he goes to find some horses. After reporting back to Soo Ryun Gae and Lee In Im, Moo Yung and his ninjas returns to Haewol House and attack. Even poor Chun is stabbed. Ban Ya hides underneath the house as the ninjas set the place on fire.
The news about the fire quickly spreads and everyone goes to be bystanders. When Ji Sang hears the place on fire is Haewol House, he quickly forgets his father's orders and runs back to look for Chun and Ban Ya. In the midst of the flames and smoke, Ji Sang is captured by the ninjas.
When Dong Yoon returns to the restaurant, he learns his son went to the burning giseang and he follows. Also showing up at the fire is Sung Gye and his men. Dong Yoon dives into the burning building where he encounters the masked Moo Yung. The chief ninja says they have Ji Sang and if Dong Yoon wants his son back to bring the map to Ja Mi Won to a shack in the woods. Sung Gye has a man follow Dong Yoon.
After the fire burns out, Jong Dae drops in to loot the dead and finds a still-living Ban Ya.
Meanwhile, Dae Ho is as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. He's worried the one ninja assassin that was captured will confess and name him in the conspiracy to kill the king. Ryun Gae advises him to go to the prison and overdo it on the torture, killing the ninja while appearing to have simply been overzealous in trying to get to the truth. And he does just that, but while Dae Ho has killed the assassin, he's also made Sung Gye suspicious.
With the permission of Choi Young, Sung Gye goes to search Dae Ho's mansion and finds a letter to the turncoat from the Chinese emperor. With tears of anger and betrayal in his eyes, King Kongmin orders his old compatriot to be executed.
Dong Yoon goes to meet with his old friend, Hyo Myung, and has a very unusual request: kill me. He doesn't want to give the enemy the directions to Ja Mi Won, but Dong Yoon knows himself well enough to admit he might buckle under torture. He gives the map to Myung and tells his friend to follow him out to the meeting place. This is overheard by Dong Yoon's tail, who goes back to report to Sung Gye.
Ninjas stand guard outside the shack as a bound and gagged Ji Sang is kept inside. Beekeeper Ryun Gae assures him he won't be alone in the afterlife as his father will be joining him shortly. Then she takes away his mother's ring. Dong Yoon arrives and they have a Mexican standoff. Give me my son. Give me the map. Give me my son first! No, give me the map first! Dong Yoon manages to procure a sword and holds off the ninjas long enough for Ji Sang to make a break for it. When Dong Yoon is disarmed and is about to be dragged off, a very shaky Hyo Myung (hiding behind a tree) shoots his friend in the back. After realizing what he's done, Myung just plops down on the ground and starts to fret. A couple of ninjas see him and are about to attack when Sung Gye and his men show up. There's lots of swirly fighting going on.
Dong Yoon isn't quite dead yet. Ryun Gae orders Moo Yung to take the prophet with them. Dong Yoon grabs the end of the woman's sword and stabs himself with it. As Ryun Gae stands there (and stands there and stands there - move, woman!), Sung Gye gets pretty close to her and almost sees her face. Moo Yung grabs her and drags her off to their horses. Sung Gye gives chase. Ryun Gae throws a smoke bomb in order to get him off their trail.
In the midst of all the fighting, Ji Sang (who saw his father being shot by Myung) crawls back to where Dong Yoon lies. That man still isn't quite dead yet. With his last bloody breath, the father orders Ji Sang to find and protect his mother. The ring... the ring... and then Dong Yoon finally dies.
