May Queen Episode 4

I guess I should mention I'm watching May Queen over on Viki.

Hae Joo and the boys fight a losing battle trying to scoop out the water from the sinking ship. In Hwa does nothing, but we shouldn't be surprised at that. Hae Joo finally thinks about using the radio but none of them on board know how to use it.

There is miscommunication at the repair dock as to who has the teeny tiny yacht out. Hong Chul goes home and calls out for Hae Joo. Pregnant Bitch Mom, after bitching a bit, tells him the girl isn't home and fixing dinner like she should be. Hong Chul again starts putting the puzzle pieces together. Hae Joo was at the repair dock, now she's gone. The teeny tiny yacht was at the repair dock, now it's gone. Meanwhile at the big house they're discovering In Hwa isn't home, either.

With the bow of the boat (that's the front end, right?) almost underwater, only now do the kids think about putting on some life vests. Hae Joo digs out a flare gun and just as she fires the sinking boat flounders dangerously. Stuff on top of the cabin starts falling down on them. Kang San pushes Chang Hee out of the way just as some kind of sharp object (I don't know what it is. It looks like a scythe to me. What's a scythe doing on a boat?) falls down and spears Kang San in the thigh. Ouch! Oh no, I hope there are no sharks off the shores of Korea.

The kids abandon the doomed boat and jump into the water, clinging to the sides of a large square flotation device. In Hwa, the load, starts to panic. Kang San is able to calm her down. Night falls. Back on shore all the adults finally figure out the kids are all together out on the yacht. Unfortunately most of the adults do nothing but stand on the dock and yell out their kids' names. They can't hear you! Surprisingly it is bastard Do Hyun who is the only calm one who thinks to call the Coast Guard.

All the adults - Do Hyun, Geum Hee, Gi Cheol, Hong Chul and grandpa Dae Pyung - are on a Coast Guard boat and are still yelling their kids names. They can't hear you over the ship's engines anyway! The kids can see the spotlights from the rescue ships. They wave and yell yet no one sees or hears them and the ships turn away in another direction. So much for the Korean Coast Guard.

Things get worse. The kids are getting cold in the water, it starts to rain, and that load, In Hwa, whines and cries the entire time. The kids manage to survive until the next morning although Kang San is feeling weak. Probably because of blood loss from his leg wound. Speaking of blood, something large swims under the water near them. Is it Jaws?!? Oh thank goodness, it's just a whale.

In a moment of weakness In Hwa drinks some sea water which causes her to lose consciousness and let go of the floatation device. While personally I would have just let her float away, Hae Joo and Chang Hee swim out and retrieve her (Kang San is nearly unconscious himself.) Just as they manage to get the load on top of their raft thingy, Hae Joo decides to fall unconscious and drift away. Chang Hee swims out to grab her but by this time all this physical exertion has left him too weak to swim them both back to the raft. The kids drift further and further apart from each other.

Back on the Coast Guard ship they've found one little piece of the yacht, verifying that the vessel has sunk. Gi Cheol and Geum Hee basically fall apart, which is understandable. Geum Hee cries wasn't it enough she lost Yoo Jin (Hae Joo), now she's lost In Hwa. She demands Do Hyun at least find a body as last time Geum Hee only had one shoe left of her daughter. Hong Chul sees the woman's distress and is crushed with guilt.

Suddenly they receive news from the helicopter sent out on the search: they've located a boy and a girl in the water. The adults (and viewers) anxiously await to see just who it is that's been found. It's Hae Joo and Chang Hee. Their unconscious bodies are brought aboard. The ship's medic diagnosis them as suffering from dehydration and hypothermia. They need to be taken to a hospital right away. Hong Chul is all for turning the boat back to shore, but Dae Pyung and Geum Hee want the children woken up here so they can tell where the other two kids are. Hong Chul starts to run for the controls to make the ship turn around when Do Hyun pulls a gun out and shoots up in the air. He points the gun at Hong Chul and warns him not to move. (The Coast Guard don't seem to be moving, either. Surely it's illegal for a civilian to have a firearm on a Coast Guard cutter. Ah, but this is DramaLand.) Hong Chul starts to tell Do Hyun who Hae Joo really is when he's cut short by Gi Cheol.

Right then Hae Joo wakes up long enough to tell the adults about the raft and how, with high tide, the other two kids should be south of the harbor somewhere. The Coast Guard races to the location and are able to find Kang San and In Hwa.

Things aren't looking good for Kang San and his leg injury. In Hwa has salt water in her lungs and may suffer from long medical terms that I'm not about to attempt.

We cut to the airport. A woman is riding an escalator as a greasy guy behind her feels up her butt and whispers cheap words in her ear. At the suitcase carousel Greasy Guy is still hanging around. The woman leans back and asks him if he likes what he sees. Should they go somewhere? Greasy Guy appears shocked. Has he finally scored for the first time in his life? No, as the mysterious woman, tight mini skirt and all, is able to lift up her leg and kick him in the face. Just for good measure she also kicks him in his family jewels. The airport security is called in with Greasy Guy proclaiming his innocence. Mystery woman tells the security guys to check the CCTV cameras to back up her claim.

Just then Yoon Jeong Woo calls out her name, which is Lee Bong Hee. No, make that Dr. Lee Bong Hee with the Nippon Petroleum Company. Even Greasy Guy is impressed he was kicked in the nads by a doctor.

Bong Hee drags Jeong Woo along with her to the reason why she's in Korea. She's been called in to consult with a local petroleum company who has been experiencing trouble. They bring her a jar of their problematic gasoline. She pours out a little bit to observe the color and smell, then SHE DRINKS IT! She promptly falls dead. No, not really. Instead she tastes that there's too much mercury in the fuel so the company needs to stop production immediately and change their catalyst. Then she drops dead. No, not really. Sorry, can't help myself. What she does do next is put Jeong Woo in a headlock and announce she's going to stay at his place so she can save the hotel fee. Yeah, I'm going to like her.

The kids seem to be recovering except for In Hwa who is still unconscious (just the way I like her.) Hae Joo attempts to visit the girl. Geum Hee stops her in the hallway, blaming Hae Joo for the accident and slapping the girl. Hong Chul witnesses this exchange and cries.

Chang Hee goes to visit Kang San who is recovering from surgery on his leg. Chang Hee thanks the boy for saving him from injury. A friendship is born. (A friendship doomed to be torn asunder over the love of one woman, but that's for later.)

Chang Hee next finds Hae Joo. He notices she's been hit and figures out what happened. He wants to tell Geum Hee the truth, how it was her precious little whiner In Hwa who got them all in trouble, but Saint Hae Joo doesn't want him to say anything. She's already forgiven the stressed out ahjumma.

Dad takes Hae Joo home and throws idiot son Sang Tae out of his room for the night so Hae Joo had recover indoors. Pregnant Bitch Mom overhears this and orders Hong Chul into their bedroom where she rips him a new one. As the argument goes on their voices get louder. Hong Chul threatens to slap his wife. She dares him to, telling him he should just leave with his darling daughter and live with the woman who bore Hae Joo. Hong Chul storms out of the room only to find Hae Joo was standing outside hearing it all. She starts to run off and he follows. Hae Joo stops for a cry as Hong Chul attempts to explain everything. She admits that for awhile now she suspected she really wasn't Pregnant Bitch Mom's real daughter (for which you should feel grateful, kid) and with tears in her eyes Hae Joo asks him who her real birth mother is.
