Prince of Lan Ling Episode 13

DramaFever has been down most of the day, giving me great withdrawal symptoms. They're my only safe access to Lan Ling. I didn't like how another website was acting. But now hopefully all is back the way it should be and I can get down to feeding my addiction.

Zheng Er reports in to Empress Hu, expressing her fears that she won't be able to make Chang Gong fall in love with her. Zu Ting gifts Zheng Er with some hoodoo voodoo guaranteed to break Chang Gong and Xue Wu up and make him fall in love with Zheng Er.

But perhaps she won't have to bother with casting any spells as the next morning Xue Wu is practically handing Chang Gong over to Zheng Er. The divine sorceress simply asks that Zheng Er take care of the prince and won't let him do anything stupid (like drink poison).

An De arrives with the next test from the Queen Dowager. Everyone goes down to Veteran's Village, where the widows and orphans of fallen soldiers live. The mean princesses are grossed out by survivors with missing limbs and such. The children all refer to Chang Gong as 'godfather', so when he introduces Xue Wu as his wife, they call her 'godmother'. Chang Gong takes this opportunity to tell Xue Wu how all these children will be so sad if their godmother were to leave forever. Lay on that guilt, Chang Gong.

Seeing that she's losing the prince's interest, Zheng Er suddenly tackles a village kid, claiming she was trying to save him from tripping over some stones. (Yeah, like tackling him to the ground was so much safer.) Chang Gong sees that Zheng Er's delicate skin is all scratched up. She asks if he'll take her back to Lan Ling Manor so she can treat her wounds.

Xiao Dong watches with concern as Xue Wu's grandmother casts another divination spell. The signs are bad and Granny orders Xiao Dong to quickly fetch her granddaughter. (Was he supposed to knock that candle over as he left or was that a blooper?)

Xue Wu is playing hide and seek with the village children and so has gotten away from the group. A child offers her a drink of water which turns out to have been drugged. Xue Wu falls unconscious. Suddenly masked men rush in to carry her away.

Now that they're alone together, Zheng Er strives to keep Chang Gong from returning to the village. He just talks and talks about Xue Wu and how much he loves her. An De comes running up to report to the prince about Xue Wu's abduction.

Chang Gong and An De leap into action. They ride into the forest, fighting off more masked men. Chang Gong bursts into an old shed, being wounded by a masked man as he sees an unconscious Xue Wu on the floor. An De wants to keep the masked man alive for questioning, but the guy has already doomed himself when he scratched Xue Wu's neck with his sword. Chang Gong ain't havin' it!

While everyone is off saving the divine sorceress, Zheng Er sneaks into Xue Wu's room to plant a cursed amulet in the bed. Chang Gong returns with the still unconscious Xue Wu and places her on the now cursed bed. The doctor assures the prince she'll be fine once the drug has worn off. Chang Gong orders everyone to act like nothing has happened, especially his side wound, as he doesn't want Xue Wu to worry once she wakes up.

When she does wake up, Xue Wu wonders how she got home. The last thing she remembers is drinking some water. Chang Gong lies and says she had really drunk some strong wine and promptly passed out.

Xiao Dong waits until the prince leaves before coming into the room to tell Xue Wu she must pack up immediately. Granny says they must leave tonight.

An De shows Chang Gong a gold bar taken from the body of the kidnapper. Chang Gong recognizes the bar as coming from someone official and high up. An De has no doubt it was Zu Ting behind this kidnapping. Chang Gong wants more evidence, though, before they go around accusing the imperial astrologer.

Xiao Dong is trying to hustle Xue Wu out the gate when they're caught by the prince. Chang Gong asks for a moment alone with his wife. He tells her he's come to accept the emperor's orders and Chang Gong plans to chose Zheng Er as his princess, so it's fine for Xue Wu to leave. (Really he's worried about Xue Wu's safety and knows she'll be better off back behind the mystic wall of fog.) As Xue Wu wishes him well, Chang Gong slips his jade pendant into her bag.

You may commence crying.

The next day Zu Ting runs to the emperor to report he's read the stars and they point to Chang Gong planning to overthrow his father. The emperor totally believes the toothy troublemaker and orders Lan Ling Manor to be searched for any objects of black magic. Of course they find the cursed amulet in Xue Wu's bed. Zheng Er realizes she's been used.

Chang Gong is brought before the emperor where Zu Ting continues to make accusations. Since the cursed amulet was found in Xue Wu's room, the divine sorceress must have been the one casting spells on Lan Ling's orders. The emperor orders his son to be thrown into jail to await execution.

Zu Ting must knock Zheng Er unconscious before she can open her mouth and save Chang Gong. There's a lot of unconscious women in this episode.

  1. That "unconscious women" comment really killed me hahahaha. I really appreciate your recaps of this drama. Nowhere else on the internet can I get it. I wasn't going to watch this episode, and skip to where they marry, but after reading this, I want to watch it now. Thanks.
