Despite Dong Joo's protests, Soo Wan returns his ring. Cha Min Soo tries to talk some sense into her bestie while Dong Joo goes to cry on the unconscious shoulder of Dr. Evil. Dong Joo leaves the room just as the old man starts to open his eyes.
At the hospital, Kim Woo Chul is on the roof (naturally) trying to score a cigarette when down below he spies Dr. Oh No! and Shifty Eyed Cop having a meeting. Shifty Eyed has some bad news. The car that Dr. Oh No! thought had been scrapped 12 years ago is still around. The owner of the scrap yard decided back then to secretly repair it and keep the vehicle for himself.
Soo Wan comes to visit her now-awake father and finds both her ex-fiancés in the room. She goes running to her favorite park bench which is where Ji Woon finds her. He tells how he knows all about the sordid story and tries to convince Soo Wan to forgive her father. She just walks away.
Hye Joo has fallen ill so Teddy and Ki Woon Chan leave little Jin Mo home alone to fend for himself while they take her to the hospital. Thank goodness our Three ER Prisoners are there to help. But what is up with that dorky expression on Prisoner #2? At least I finally learn, in Episode 16, that Hye Joo's mystery illness was leukemia. Why the show couldn't mention that before, I don't know.
Dr. Evil may be awake but he's unable to speak or move.
Min Soo asks Ji Woon about a car his father bought and then had scrapped. She's planning to question his invisible father and thought she would give Ji Woon the heads up out of their friendship. Ji Woon asks where exactly Jung Hwa's accident happened. When Min Soo names the intersection, he again gets that nervous look on his face. He goes to the hospital records room and starts looking through the case files from 2002. Oddly, he's searching for the records of someone named Kim Hye Sook.
Dong Joo tells his sister about their mother's eyes. Hye Joo meets with her unni to assure Soo Wan how very glad she is about this and this is no reason for Dong Joo and Soo Wan to break up. Hye Joo has a Wise Moment and tells Soo Wan to stop with the weak excuses. Love will solve everything. Oh no, Soo Wan gives the whistle necklace to Hye Joo.
Ji Woon tracks down the mysterious Kim Hye Sook, an older woman. This leads to a flashback. Try not to laugh at a young Ji Woon. Try not to laugh. Alright, go ahead - laugh. At the hospital, young Ji Woon fidgets nervously as his mother inquires into a patient brought in earlier - the same Kim Hye Sook. She had been hit while riding her bicycle. As Dr. Oh No! visits with the patient, Ji Woon peers through the window and sees the woman in good health. He breathes a sigh of relief. (I can't speak for all American hospitals, but in the ones I've been in, the doors to the patients' rooms didn't have windows. It's called Privacy.)
Anyway, back to the Present. Ji Woon is asking Mrs. Kim about her bike accident. It was a hit and run, right? Mrs. Kim says no, she wasn't technically hit by a car; a passing vehicle frightened her so that she fell off her bike and broke her ankle. And that Dr. Oh No! was so nice, paying for Mrs. Kim's medical bills.
A dazed and confused Ji Woon drives away from the interview and into another flashback. This one shows it was bespectacled Ji Woon who was driving the fancy car that hit Jung Hwa. Back at his apartment, Ji Woon calls his mother over to ask the hard questions about what the heck was going on with the Kim Hye Sook deception.
Soo Wan and Dong Joo have another fight. Dong Joo has another brooding shower scene. He gathers together the letters he had written to Soo Wan and their antique iPod and gives them to Min Soo to give to her friend. Soo Wan listens to the tearful message Dong Joo left on the player. Dong Joo has his bags packed and his plane tickets to Boston in hand. But first he has to pay one more visit to bedridden Dr. Evil. After another boo hoo session, Dong Joo starts to leave the hospital room. Dr. Evil summons the last of his strength to reach up and take off his oxygen mask.
I'm no doctor, but I don't think removing an oxygen mask is going to put a patient in deadly danger. But this is DramaLand, where the laws of space and time and common sense aren't considered.
